Police Engineering Project
ORIGIN & DEVELOPMENT
The organization of Police Engineering Project is headed by the Chief Engineer with its supporting engineers inclusive of one Superintending Engineer, four Executive Engineers and a good numbers of Subordinate Engineers (both Civil and Electrical) and other Technical officers to supervise all nature of works in their respective jurisdiction distributed in the 17(seventeen) districts.
The Chief Engineer is the professional head of the department. The Superintending Engineer is the head of a circle under whom one or more working divisions exist. It is a supervising office of all working divisions under its charge in respect of all developmental works and manpower management. The functioning of all officers and staff under a circle are monitored closely by the Superintending Engineer to ensure efficient control over them. There are four working divisions under PEP, ie EE PEP Kohima, EE PEP Chumukedima, EE PEP Alichen and EE(Electrical), Kohima. In addition to the above ranks structure of the executive force, the Police Engineering Department also has different categories of the employees to provide effective administrative and functional support to the organization. Ministerial Staff consist of the ranks like Head of establishment (HA), Sr. DA, Upper Division Assistant (U.D.A.), Lower Division Clerk (L.D.A.), Support Staff, and secretarial Staff like Stenographers etc.
The technical wing has always endeavored to promote the professional efficiency of any kind of works under police department and ensure that its performance is at all times in accordance with policies and guidelines, setting standards for quality policing, facilitating their implementation and ensuring that the working staffs performs its task in a professional manner with functional autonomy.Hence the wing is competent to execute any type of projects under the Police Department.
The engineering wing is engaged in undertaking the execution, supervision and maintenance of four natures of engineering works ie, 1) Roads & Bridges 2) Housing 3) Power 4) Water supply. Financial assistance are earmarked yearly for construction of new infrastructural works
The approved sectoral outlay for the following consecutive years under PEP are as follows:
- 2020-21 – Rs.1062.50 lakhs
- 2021-22 -Rs. 1052.50 lakhs.
- 2022-23 – Rs.1060.00 lakhs
- 2023-24 – Rs. 919.60 lakhs
- 2024-25 -Rs. 936.11 lakhs
Details of information/data:
- The Detailed budget head wise break up under State development fund (scheme wise) for 2023-24 are appended as Annexure I.
- The GOI, Ministry of Finance, Department of expenditure has also approved the project under Part I and Part V of Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment 2023-24. Under Part-I of SASCI, an amount of Rs.25.5 crore and under SASCI Part-V, an amount of Rs.20.88 crores was sanctioned. Details of the works are appended as Annexure-II.
